Frequently Asked Questions — Protect PDF
What encryption does Docsly use to protect PDFs?
Docsly uses AES-256 encryption — the same standard used by banks and government agencies. This makes the PDF extremely difficult to open without the correct password, protecting your sensitive documents effectively.
Can I set different permissions (print, copy, edit)?
Currently Docsly applies full password protection — the recipient needs the password to open the file at all. Granular permissions (allow printing but block editing, for example) are planned for a future update.
What happens if I forget the password?
Docsly does not store your password anywhere. If you forget it, the encrypted PDF cannot be recovered. We strongly recommend storing your passwords in a password manager or secure location.
Can I protect multiple PDFs at once?
Currently the Protect PDF tool processes one file at a time. Upload, protect, and download each PDF individually. Batch protection is on our development roadmap.
Is the Protect PDF tool really free?
Yes — completely free with no hidden charges, no file limits, and no account required. Docsly is ad-supported and all tools are available at zero cost.
